solar Tube

Sun tunnels, are often described as sun tubes or light tunnels, to name but a few. Sun Tunnels are a way of bringing natural light into our homes and places of work. On overcast days the best systems will still produce some good light to brighten up those dark areas found in most homes.

How do they work?

A roof dome captures light and sends it down a highly reflective tube to a diffuser within the ceiling. This then spreads the light across the room. Rigid tube systems will produce the best results. Flexible systems can lose up to 90% of light compared to the best operating rigid tube type. No electrical connections are required, unless you opt for an internal light kit for night-time operation. Other accessories include a daylight dimmer to shut out any unwanted light. These are popular in bedrooms and can either be operated manually or electronically.

What size are they?

There are different size systems for different applications. A 10 inch diameter (230mm) sun tunnel will be capable of lighting a bathroom, walk-in wardrobe or similar size space up to 11 metres squared. A 14 inch diameter (350mm) sun tunnel can be used in most spaces, halls, landings, lounges, kitchens, etc, etc and would be capable of lighting up an area up to 16 square metres.

How long does it take to install?

We can install 1, 2, 3 or more usually within 1 day and the complete job would be seamless. There would be no making good to do, especially within your ceiling area. We cut a hole in your roof & this is weathered using a flashing system suitable to your roof tile type.

Who can install them?

Although a competent roofer could carry out these works, we always recommend that you use someone that has many years roofing experience in installing these products. Not only should your roof remain dry after installation, but the system needs to be completely sealed. If done correctly, you will not have to carry out any cleaning or maintenance for the rest of its life. You certainly wouldn’t welcome any unwanted insects making a home in your investment!

How much do they cost?

This can vary, as lofts come in different sizes and it depends where the roof element is in relation to the ceiling diffuser. This is why we carry out free surveys (without obligation) to give you an accurate projection of light and of course cost. Please feel free to call us on
